UNIVERSITY OF THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ART

The University of the Visual and Performing Arts was founded in 1893. The first courses taught here were drawing and design. The University, which was located in Horton, was transferred to Haywood Collage on October 01, 1949. Later in 1980, it was affiliated to the University of Kelaniya. The University of the Visual and Performing Art was established as a formal university on 1 July 2005 through a special gazette notification. The first Vice-Chancellor was Mr. Sarath Amunugama. After completing five years of study, students were awarded a Diploma of Fine Arts. The first principal here was Mr. J. D. A. Perera. Music and Dance were included in the curriculum on 2 July 1952. The institution was later renamed the 'Government Collage of Fine Arts'.

Thus, many changes have occurred within the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, which has a long history. Today, the University has developed a lot. And there are many different courses here. The best place to study art, of course, is the University of Fine Arts. I Love my Mother University.
